Grade 3 finished their simple machines unit with a creative flare! Each student was asked to create their own simple machines out of things around the house. They did a great job and presented them to the class. After the presentations, everyone got to try them out. Here are a few examples.
Students in grade 3 created tower structures in Science. Groups of students were supplied with 2 feet of tape and 4 sheets of newspaper to create the tallest tower they could in 15 minutes. The towers were tested to see if they could hold up under the weight of King Kong. Although King Kong couldn't swing from all the towers, the students had fun.
It's finally here!!! Students were so excited to preview the Book Fair yesterday and today at school. They made their wish lists of books they can't wait to read. We hope you can join us at Open House or Special Persons Day to check it out for yourself!

The CACS Online Book Fair is now open. It can be accessed at https://bookfair.chiltonareacatholic.org . If you cannot attend our Book Fair in person, this is a great way to support our school and also get books in the hand of our students. All book fair proceeds (online and in-person) will go to get new books for the new CACS Library and the classroom libraries. Hope to see you in-person during Open House on Sunday and for Special Person's lunch on Tuesday.

The new CACS Book Fair should be arriving on Friday. This year we will be using the I:55 Book Fair. I:55 is a faith-based company (their motto is "Where Faith Matters"), so hopefully it will be great for our school. The Book Fair will be completely set up and open next Wednesday, January 22nd. The big shopping days will be during open house on Sunday, January 26th and during Special Person's Lunch on Tuesday, January 28th. Please come and support our Book Fair. Last month, the CACS Board Games Club met for some free choice games before Christmas. Popular choices included some old favorites like chess, checkers, Guess Who, Uno, and Bananagrams. As a part of this club, students are learning and practicing game rules, turn-taking, strategy, teamwork, and sportsmanship skills in fun ways. Great job, students!
We are down to only 27 calendars in our possession left to sell! If you have unsold calendars, PLEASE get them back to the parish office ASAP. Remember, the last day to sell calendars is December 31. All money and stubs must be returned to the parish office by then. If there is no one at the office, please use the drop box on the front of the building. Let's get the calendars sold!
Grade 3 had a visit from their class sponcer, Mrs. Carol Daun. The students were excited to share projects and lessons with her. Before she left, the students sang her the blessing song and gave her a thank you gift.

The fourth candle of Advent, also known as the "Angel's Candle", is lit on this day to represent God's love and the anticipation of the Kingdom of God on earth. The candle is purple in color.

We will be moving the Christmas program to TOMORROW, Friday, December 20. Show times will be the same, 1:00 and 6:00, at the Engler Center, but only the 6:00 performance will be livestreamed. We hope to see everyone there!
School will be closing today at 1:30. There will be no Christmas program today at 1:00 or at 6:00. We will reschedule the program for another date, so stay tuned for that information. There will be NO AFTERCARE today - please make arrangements to have kids picked up at 1:30. Bus kids can take the bus.

We've been celebrating Christmas this week with dress up days every day! Monday was Crazy Hair Day and Tuesday was Candy Cane Day. Lots of creativity coming out, especially on Monday!
On this third Sunday of Advent, which the Church calls “Gaudete Sunday", meaning rejoice or praise, we light the third candle and rejoice like the shepherds. For this reason, the third candle of Advent is called the “Shepherd's Candle,” and its color is pink, the liturgical color for joy.

Welcome to the second Sunday of Advent!
The second candle on the Advent wreath represents peace. Like the first candle, it is also purple. Often called the “Bethlehem Candle,” the second Advent candle reminds us of Mary and Joseph's journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem before Mary gave birth to Jesus.
